At Jessie May, we know how important it is for families to have time together – time that’s free from appointments, pressures, and the day-to-day challenges of caring for a child with complex needs. That’s why our family fun days are such a special part of what we do.
This summer, we were thrilled to welcome 26 of our families to Avon Valley Adventure Park – and what a day it was!
Set between Bristol and Bath in the beautiful South West countryside, Avon Valley was the perfect place for our families to relax, have fun, and make memories. The day was packed with activities – from the merry-go-round and train ride to the pig race, dinosaur adventure, and foam party! There was something for everyone, including water slides, a paddle board competition, soft play, and even a silent disco. And of course, no summer day out would be complete without an ice cream.
It was so moving to see the smiles, the laughter, and the connections being made – both between families and with our nurses and team. As one mum shared:
“We don’t usually make the events as our child is often in hospital, but it’s so nice to actually make it this time. We’re really excited and grateful to be here.”
Events like this don’t just give families a day out – they offer a chance to create some happy memories that last a lifetime, and also a chance to be out and about with people that make them feel understood. Families consistently tell us how much they value sensitively planned events.

Parents anonymous told us:
“We don’t know what we would do without Jessie May,” said mum. Dad added: “We really look forward to their visits, as it gives us a break that some people might take for granted. And the events are so special as they help us to create some great memories that the whole familie can enjoy together.”
“It’s amazing to watch our child experience new things and to give her some kind of normality.” Mum concluded.
To all the families who joined us – thank you. We know how much planning and effort it takes to attend days like this, and we’re so glad you could come. You are the heart of everything we do, and without you, this day simply wouldn’t have been the same.
We’d also like to say thank you to the team at Avon Valley, who were helpful throughout the planning process and on the day itself. They were thoughtful and accommodating to the needs of our families, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
Finally, a special thank you to Alice, as always, for organising such a wonderful day – we couldn’t have done it without you! Also to our brilliant Jessie May team, including our nurses and staff who came along to help out, support families, and make the day extra special. Your presence and care brought an extra layer of warmth and reassurance to the day.
