Family events
Bringing joy, togetherness, and unforgettable memories to families throughout the year.

At Jessie May, we know how important it is for families caring for a seriously ill child to have moments of joy and connection. That’s why we host family events all year round – giving children the chance to simply be children, and parents the opportunity to make memories they’ll treasure forever.
From trips to the zoo to festive parties, our events are fully inclusive and designed around the complex needs of the families we support. There’s always something special to look forward to.
Why Our Events Matter
For many of our families, attending a typical event isn’t always possible – but Jessie May events are different. We take care of the details, so families don’t have to worry. That means:
- Accessibility comes first – from venues to activities
- There’s often a nurse or two on site – not in a clinical setting but there to support and be a friendly face
- Thanks to funding from Jessie May supporters they are free of charge for all Jessie May families
- Time to relax and be together without judgement or stress
You can also explore the Days Out Passbook!
We know that even small outings can be a huge help for families needing a break. That’s why we created the Jessie May Days Out Passbook – a growing collection of accessible, family-friendly venues and activities across our region.
Packed with ideas, discounts and places that welcome our families with open arms. These are just family days out with no Jessie May presence. Flexible, free and fun!
One parent told us:
“This opportunity really eases the financial pressure on the family. It’s these small things that make a big difference. When a child is first diagnosed, you lose more than you often realise.”
What’s in the Passbook?
So far, the passbook includes five fantastic attractions – with more in the pipeline! Each venue has generously offered either free access through community or charity memberships. Participating attractions so far include:
- We the Curious – A hands-on science centre in Bristol (free access via community membership)
- Bristol Zoo Project – A wild day out under the Access to Nature scheme
- Slimbridge Wetland Centre – Explore nature and wildlife with space for the whole family
- Steam Museum, Swindon – A journey through railway history made accessible and affordable
- Bowood House & Gardens – Adventure playgrounds, gardens, and a perfect day trip for our BSW and BNSSG families
“For a few hours, we could just enjoy being a family again. That means everything.”
