“I remember visiting Izzy after her transplant, and seeing her, someone who used to bum shuffle around, now lying unconscious on a ventilator. Her parents, Neil and Emma, were understandably worried despite the surgery going well. I told them to take a break while I stayed with her, holding her hand. Emma later said she didn’t want to leave Izzy, but knowing I was with her, she knew she’d be fine.”

This was just one of many moments where the Jessie May nurses acted as advocates for Izzy, especially during her long dialysis sessions.

Nurses Steve and Charlotte played a crucial role in supporting Izzy and her family, offering consistent care both at home and during hospital stays. In addition to providing emotional support, the nurses became key advocates for Izzy, especially during her lengthy hospitalisations.

Their familiarity with Izzy’s needs, gained from their visits at home, enabled them to communicate effectively with hospital staff, ensuring Izzy’s comfort and well-being even when she couldn’t speak for herself.

Their deep understanding of Izzy’s condition and the family dynamic allowed them to confidently represent her needs in a way that helped her receive the best care possible. This level of trust and personalised care is a hallmark of Jessie May’s approach, offering families much-needed relief and advocacy during challenging times.

It costs £450 a day to fund a Jessie May nurse. In that time, our nurses can support two families to experience the precious normality of family life many simply take for granted, and to make lasting memories to treasure forever.

We are so grateful for your previous support of Jessie May. A gift this winter of £15, £30, or £45 from our community of generous individuals could collectively fund a nurse for a whole year, providing the care that every child like Izzy needs and deserves. Please donate whatever you can manage, this winter.

Thank you, in advance, from the bottom of our hearts, for your continued support.
