What is reiki…

Reiki is a gentle touch therapy that works on the same principles as reflexology and acupuncture — supporting the body’s natural ability to rebalance and heal itself.

What can it help with?

Reiki is useful to aid relaxation, reduce stress and to support emotional wellbeing. It is simple, natural and safe and therefore suitable for anyone. Reiki can be used safely alongside conventional healthcare and medicines without risk of negative interactions.

What happens during a treatment session?

Sessions can be carried out lying or seated and you remain fully clothed, although you may like to remove your shoes. There will be blankets and cushions to help you feel relaxed and comfortable as well as some gentle music, although you are happy to listen to your own or have none. Our therapist will place her hands on or near various points of the body, using a combination of static and dynamic movements.

What does it feel like?

You may feel sensations such as temperature changes from the therapist’s hands or sometimes a slight vibration. You may feel very relaxed and it is fine if you fall asleep! The therapist will gently tell you when the session has come to an end.

Who will be running this event?

We have asked Katie Grimes, a registered practitioner to run this event for us.  Katie is a registered reiki practitioner with the UK Reiki Federation and has recently joined the Reiki Therapy Team at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

In addition to reiki, Katie also continues to work as a registered children’s nurse which she has done for over 20 years. Her career has included periods specialising in oncology, haematology and BMT. She joined the adolescent ward at Bristol Children’s Hospital 12 years ago and continues to enjoy working there as part of the senior nursing team.
