Because the nursing care and support Jessie May provides enables families to continue to care for their child at home, avoiding unnecessary admissions to hospital while also keeping the family together.
Because we can’t do this without you. It costs from £41,000 every year to fund just 1 of our nurses, and we can't do this without our amazing supporters.
Because children with life-limiting conditions are missing the chance to live their lives at home, with their families. Surround by their toys and home comforts.
Over the last decade, more and more children have been referred to Jessie May than ever before. Their medical needs have become ever more complex and as a result, the clinical care Jessie May nurses provide is becoming more specialist, especially at end-of-life. Today our team of nurses delivering care in the home stands at 16, to fund just 1 of them costs from £41,000 each year.
Claire Matson has been part of Jessie May’s nursing team for 10 amazing years:
“I love being a Jessie May nurse, it’s such an honour. We bring specialist palliative care while creating precious memories. No two days are ever the same. One moment I might find myself drawing pictures or reading stories and the next I am responding to a clinical emergency."
“My colleagues and I want to ensure that children can be supported safely at home including at the end of their life, that they are able to die at home surrounded by those who love them."
“Home is a place where children are loved, where they thrive and where they feel most comfortable with their own family, friends, pets and toys.”
