It’s been a couple of months since we ‘sprung forward’ in March, now as we bounce into May we’ve got a different challenge to bring to you this month!

Alex Munro is taking on the Inflatable 5k in Bristol in June, alongside her boyfriend Joel. She recently spoke to us about the special reason she’s bouncing her way around 5k, and how musicals are her motivation when she gets out to train.

What motivated you to run the Inflatable 5k in 2022?

I’ve seen The Inflatable 5k take place in previous years and thought it’s always looked incredibly fun and that I’d love to do it! I’ve decided to do it this year as my brother, Ben is turning the big 1-8 this year, and I thought what better way we can celebrate such a special birthday, as well as an amazing charity – Jessie May.

Joel, my boyfriend has always been a great support to me, and we are very excited to be sharing this experience and undertaking the challenge together!

Why have you chosen to run for #TeamJessie?

The charity is very close to my heart – Jessie May have supported Ben and my family since he was only a few months old. The Jessie May nurses have always gone above and beyond for us, and has provided us and many families with at home nursing and respite care. They have played a huge part of our lives over the past 18 years, and this is my way of saying thank you.

How is the training going?

The training is going well. I’m a student nurse, so fitting in a run can be challenging alongside placements and studying – but I’m giving it a good go! I’m not a great runner so I have been building my distance and time up slowly over time. It will definitely be a challenge for me, but I’m excited to give it my all on the day.

Can you share a memorable training run?

Myself and Joel recently completed a training run along the beach on our stayvacation in Weymouth – it was the first time we both went out together, and it truly made this challenge feel very real but has also made us both very excited for June!

What do you listen to during your runs?

Anything uplifting! I love musicals so I can’t go wrong with some of my favourite musicals songs to keep me going!

Where can people follow your training journey?

I will be posting updates on our JustGiving page now the 5 week countdown is on!
